Held Under Atlantic Light

Co. Mayo, 2026

This body of work examines the Irish Atlantic fringe through atmosphere and surface. Across County Mayo, the paintings focus on overcast conditions where light is diffused and held close to the land. Limestone, peat, and low vegetation absorb it, producing a subdued palette where the boundary between sky and ground softens.

Low ridges, shallow valleys, and worn tracks emerge gradually, often partially obscured by mist or distance. The horizon drifts, dissolving into a continuous field of grey and muted blue.

Weather settles across the landscape with a steady presence, pressing down into the ground and quietening its contours. The paintings hold this weight and stillness, where light, land, and air remain closely bound.
